Abstract

This paper describes local media in the Basque language in the area of the Basque Pyrenees (northern Navarre, Basse Navarre and southern Soule) and the options for creating a digital platform that would work as a content aggregator. The research has been focused on the attitude of each local media towards this hypothetical platform. In-depth interviews have been conducted with each media group director and a focus group with professionals from all the media involved. In addition, a case study of similar digital platforms in the Basque Country has been undertaken. The main concern of the people involved is, apart from economic issues, that the project would increase their workload which is already stretched. Different opinions have emerged regarding the content to be shared and along what lines to designate geographical boundaries. However, the project is considered to be worthwhile as a means of bringing cohesion to the area in support of the Basque language.
