Abstract
Steel is currently used in various sectors as a structural material. This type of steel is subjected to heat treatments, mainly quenching and annealing, with the aim of modifying its microstructure and increasing its mechanical strength. However, the cooling strategies used today in the industry lead to non-uniform cooling of the components. This has a direct impact on the generation of residual stresses and distortions in the components. Therefore, it is of vital importance to develop a numerical methodology to predict the non-homogeneous mechanical properties along the structural component, as well as the residual stresses generated. In this way, this methodology allows the non-homogeneous characteristics of the structural components to be predicted, so that they can be taken into account in subsequent in-service behaviour analyses
