Abstract
In Education Sciences and, more generally, in Human and Social Sciences, qualitative anddescriptive approaches are used extensively. From a methodological point of view, triangulation is in turn widely used. This triangulation can integrate quantitative methodsreferring to categorical variables (or qualitative variables or ‘attribute’ variables). Thisspecificity is often not well understood by researchers, who may lack the necessary technicaltraining in these research areas. General considerations are provided and applied to aparticular study, namely: “describing the profile students to become kindergarten or primaryschools’ teachers”.Keywords: qualitative research, triangulation, categorical variables, teacher training.
