Abstract

Aluminum alloys are widely used in the automotive industry due to their high strength / weight ratio. However, during the manufacturing processes, defects are introduced. One of these related to the casting process is porosity. This factor is very detrimental for the fatigue behavior of these alloys. For this reason, the objective of the present work is to analyze, theoretically, the influence of the size and position of different pores on the stress intensity factor at the crack front. To this end, an XFEM model has been used. The results obtained show that the larger the pore size and the closer to the crack front, the greater the stress intensity factor that it produces.
